Chapter One deals with events leading up to the opening of the Sutton Coldfield Branch Line in 1862, the role of local personalities and the LNWR, the arguments for the Eastern or the Western route and the rival companies and their Railway Bills.
Chapter Two follows the route through Aston, across the Tame Valley, via Gravelly Hill, to Erdington, Chester Road, Wylde Green and Sutton Coldfield, and then shows how the engineering problems were resolved, the construction and workers who were involved, and finally the ultimate cost.
Chapter Three shows the Press reports on the opening of the new branch line, the Celebration Banquet, the passengers and timetables and a descriptive report of 'The Journey to Sutton'.
